Nozzle NDE
ASME Code, Section VIII, Division 1, does not require any NDE of nozzle welds (Category D welds), regardless of the extent of RT and the joint efficiency used for design of the vessel. The configuration of most nozzle welds (see Figure 600-5) usually does not permit satisfactory RT. However, ASME Code, Section VIII, Division 2 (Paragraph AF-240), requires UT examination of these welds if RT cannot be satisfactorily performed.
