Operation Below Ambient Temperature
Pressure vessels that will be in continuous operation at temperatures below normal ambient temperatures are considered to be in “critical” service because of the risk of brittle fracture. The minimum design metal temperatures for these vessels are based on their normal minimum operating temperatures. The minimum design temperature will usually be designated at approximately 10°F below the minimum operating temperature.
