Corrugated Plate Interceptor Design

Corrugated plate interceptor (CPI) is the most common parallel plate interceptor in oil facilities. CPI is an improvement of the PPI, CPI take less area for the same particle size removal. The figure above shows down flow CPI diagram.

The parallel plates in CPI are corrugated parallel to the flow direction. The plate pack is inclined at an angle of 45° and the bulk water flow is forced downward.

The oil sheet will concentrated in the top of each corrugation as the oil moves upward. When the oil reaches the end of the plate pack, it is collected in a channel and brought to the oil-water interface. The sand should be removed from the oil before flowing through a CPI.
